Casino Bookstore about craps

What is craps?

Craps (previously known as crabs) is a casino gambling game using dice. Players wager money against the casino on the outcome of one roll, or of a series of rolls of two dice.

Craps can also be played in less formal settings and is said to be popular among soldiers. In such situations side bets are less frequent, with one or several participants covering or "fading" bets against the dice.

Craps is a bet that the shooter will roll 2, 3 or 12 on the next roll. The true odds are 8-1 and the casino pays 7-1.

C & E is actually two bets. A player is betting one unit on craps and another unit on 11. One of the two bets will always lose, and the other will pay off as above.

Horn is a bet that involves betting on 1 unit each for 2, 3, 11 and 12 at the same time for the next roll. Most players do a "Horn High" bet which involves betting an additional $1 on one of the 4 choices, with the most frequent being a $5 "horn high yo" bet (which means $2 on the 11, $1 each on 2, 3 & 12).

The field bet is a wager that one of the numbers in the box (usually 2, 3, 4, 9,10,11,12) will be rolled on the next roll of the dice. This bet pays even money, but the true odds are 4-5. Often 2 and/or 12 will pay 2-1. Some casinos pay 3-1 on either the 2 or 12.

Reviews:

Great Craps Book and a TRUE Classic
A previous reviewer obviously has very little knowledge of craps or she would know that the Captain has played with many students of Golden Touch Craps and even had a 147 roll hand not too long ago with several witnesses at the table. You can go to goldentouchcraps.com for the story.

I happened to meet one of the Captain's original crew members in Atlantic City (Dave the barnacle) so I know what he wrote about the Captain is real. Dave told me great stories about the Captain too.

Frank certainly plays in the casinos about 150 days a year. Yes he is also a writer, a great writer. Unlike you I found the book to be loaded with valuable information and also very entertaining.

It takes the reader on a full course of how craps is played, what the bets of craps are, and which bets are the best and which are the ones to avoid (Crazy Crapper Bets). The book also explains the 5-Count and there is a very big chapter on the mathematical proofs concerning the 5-Count based on Dr. Donald Caltin's study of it. Dr. Catlin is a mathematician at University of Massachusetts.

The book explains how to analyze hedge betting in the most detailed and best analysis I have ever read. The previous reviewer must have missed that chapter.

In also discusses for the first time in print the idea that some people can actually control the dice with their throws.

This book, as I said is loaded with valuable information and was a pleasure to read. If you are thinking of reading a craps book, I highly recommend this one.

Scoblete is a writer not a gambler
This book tells of the 5 count, a strategy based on superstition not math, which was created by the Captain, a person I believe to be a figment of the authors imagination. The book tells some of the basic play of craps which is useful but everything else is a waste of the reader's time. The way the material is presented is also boring and anything but to the point. The author must tell unentertaining and most likely made up stories in order to present anything and this gets very old when simple facts are all that is desired. I believe that the author is a writer but I'm not sure he's ever been in a casino. If he is still capable of playing in casinos without a disguise - he seems to love the attention, and his picture is right on the cover, something a real casino winner that still plays would never do - he must not be a threat to the casinos. If you are going to buy a book on craps I suggest one written by Avery Cardoza. If you insists on getting this book I ask you to check a Cardoza book out from the library and compare the two. I think you will agree that Cardoza is a superior gaming author.
Best Craps Strategy Possible
This book and FOREVER CRAPS are similar in content, however, this book is aimed more toward beginners. But since they are similar, I will say the same thing for this book that I said about FOREVER CRAPS.

One thing that all the skeptics out there need to understand is that Scoblete doesn't claim that the 5 count system used on completely random rollers will win in the long run. As a matter of fact, Scoblete would be one of the first people to admit this. The only time that a person can obtain an edge on the house is when he(or she) is either setting the dice, or is betting on someone else who is setting the dice(people otherwise known as "ryhmic rollers"). This is what he practices and preaches.

He suggests the five count to SAVE you money more than WIN you money. Trust me. When the the table turns ice cold, you will thank the five count as it will save you a lot of money for not betting on those bad rollers and quick seven outs, giving you the extra money you need to invest on the dice setters. When the table turns hot, the five count will help you find those dice setting rhythmic rollers who have found their groove.

For all you amatuer theorists out there that claim that "Nobody can really influence the dice! It's impossible!" I feel very very sorry for you because you are ignorant in the fact that it has been INDESPUTABLY AND MATHEMATICALLY PROVEN that people have and still are controlling the dice by obtaining a sevens to rolls ratio of 1 to 7 or higher(when the ratio for random rollers is 1 to 6) which gives those players and everyone else who bets on them A MATHEMATICAL EDGE OVER THE HOUSE IN THE LONG RUN!!! If you are still arguing against this concept, that just shows that you are obviously not educated enough on the game of craps or the concept of kinematics and projectile motion to offer your opinions on the matter. So before you start arguing with a Physicist about projectile motion or telling a mathematician that 2 + 2 is not equal to 4, do your homework first and protect yourself from getting embarressed online in front of thousands of people for your half-brained opinions.

In conclusion, if you are a recreational craps player, or a serious gambler, you need this book and FOREVER CRAPS. There is no other way to obtain an edge over the house at craps in the long run without Scoblete's and the Captain's strategy other than cheating. Learn the 5 count, bet smart, and learn to set and control the dice effectively. It will win you money in the long run. I would bet my life on it because it has been mathematically proven and it is indesputable.
Read it in 1991 and again this week! A Masterpiece!
I read this book way back in 1991. It was the first time I had ever read about dice shooters who might be able to control the dice with what was called back then a "rhythmic roll." The Arm, the greatest shooter in the world at the time, was the one who seemed to be the best at this technique of beating the casinos.
I also got to read articles by Scoblete about dice control in Casino Magazine.

In "Beat the Craps Out of the Casinos," Frank Scoblete introduced the wonderful 5-Count method for selecting which shooters to bet on. I have been using it ever since 1991 with great results, those results being that I don't lose as much on the random shooters and I am able to get on the "rhythmic rollers" with greater frequency.

I have now read the "expanded version" of the book that has the best information I have ever read about hedge betting. It also has a great interview with the Captain of craps, the greatest craps genius in the world. It also has another chapter on a scientific study of the 5-Count with random rollers and with controlled shooters. This study is the first any such craps system has ever gone through successfully.

The new edition, hard though it seems to believe, is even better than the original, like making a better Mona Lisa on the second try.

Scoblete was the first gaming writer to bring to our attention dice control and I took his golden touch dice control course last year with great results.

I recommend that craps players read Scoblete's "The Captain's Craps Revolution," "Forever Craps," "The Craps Underground" and his upcoming book "Golden Touch Dice Control Revolution" before stepping foot again in a casino. If you read Scoblete you are reading the best gaming writer in the world.
This Book Helped Me to Win
The 5-Count is great and Scoblete's ideas of how to deal with the random rollers at the game were terrific. The section on hedge betting was the most complete and authoritative I have ever read in a book or article.

There is a reason why Scoblete is the greatest gambling author on the planet. This book is simply great.

I also loved the stories about the Captain, the Arm, and the Crew. The Interview with the Captain was wonderful.

This book is a must for all craps players.
