What is video poker?

Video poker first became commercially viable once it was economical to combine a television-like monitor with a solid state central processing unit. The earliest models appeared at the same time as the first personal computers were produced, in the mid-1970s, although they were rather primitive by today's standards.

Video poker became more firmly established when IGT (now a market-leading provider of gaming devices) brought out Draw Poker in 1979. Throughout the 1980s, video poker became increasingly popular, as people found the devices less intimidating than playing at the tables. Today, video poker enjoys a prominent place on the gaming floors of many casinos, and the game is especially popular with Las Vegas locals, who tend to patronize properties off the Las Vegas Strip for the better odds offered by those establishments.

Worth Every Minute!
Mr. Royer's Powerful Profits for Video Poker is well worth the price of admission. He is obviously wise and practical and knows the game inside out. The knowldege I have acquired have permitted me to know what I need in terms of playing Video Poker, so if you are a regular joe or joanna out there and is planning to get serious, this book if just what the doctor ordered. Repetition is the mother of skill but knowledge is still one step above. Buy immediately, now!!! (I'm just being pushy, do forgive me).
I Think This Very Good Book
I come to Las Vegas first time. My friend she give me this book, so I learn her favorite game. I like book very much. Is very good book. I have good time, and I also buy book. In this book I find everything I need to be good player. All kinds of machines you will find in this book. Also you will see all programs that running the games. There is very much more good information in this book also.

There is one page with very good chart. Chart show all the kind of machine and program and how much it pay. Also how to find it. You look at the machine, and if you know how to look, you will find great paying one. I not only have good time, but I also win money. If you want also to win money, you get this book. It pay for itself many times, and pay me also. If you get book and learn what is here, it also pay you.

Wonderful Book with Great and Essential Information
From time to time I check to see how other people feel about my favorite Video Poker book. I look to see what people write about other books on casino games, and about Video Poker in particular. I am often amazed at the obvious intellectual inferiority of some of these people who so viciously lambaste books that they obviously don't understand.

One such numb-nuts that I just read is from Scarsdale, New York. Perhaps he has some serious personal problems, because what he says about the usefulness of this book is just plainly wrong!

If you really want to know which Video Poker games are the best, and why, then you should have this book. It's a simple fact that the information presented in that book is not only timely, but factual. Royer's information comes directly from the very people who designed and built these programs that run these machines. If the person from Scarsdale, New York isn't willing to admit his shortcomings in the way he complete misunderstands the purpose of this book, then the fault is his and his only. I don't think that the tremendous value of this book should be diminished by one person's obvious hatred for something he can't himself understand. Maybe he's a friend of that other acid-tongued reader from Gurnee, IL. Don't you think so?

This reviewer's main concern seems to be that there are some typographical errors in the book. If there are, then this should be directed at the typesetters of the manuscript, and not at the content of the work by the Author. In 350 pages, there is a lot of value to be so terribly misunderstood by such a person as this, and all because he thought some typos made him angry?

I think you should all look at the entire body of the work by this Author, and how detailed and dedicated his works are to this subject. In this book on Video Poker, he has done what others have feared to do -- that is to tell the real and actual truth of the game as it really is. This book is a real and valuable tool, and essential for your gaming success. Just because there are some misguided persons who can't understand it doesn't mean they are correct in their misinterpretation.

This book is something you should have. I do.

buying this book is a waste of money
This book is just plain awful. The reviewer from Gurnee, IL is absolutely correct in his appraisal! He was actually very kind to give it 2 stars because it borders on being an outright fraud.

I am an experienced and knowledgeable video poker player. I have studied video poker strategy in depth and have several useful books and other materials.

The reason that I purchased this book is because of its recent publication date as the books and materials that I have are 5 or 6 years old and do not cover many new games and variations of older games.

Unfortunately for me, this book was no help at all and would be totally worthless to anyone new to video poker as well as to experienced players like myself. Follow the advice of the Gurnee reviewer as to reliable authors.

This book is about 350 pages but that is due to the writer repeating the same material over and over in an effort to stretch it out and make it look substantial when it is not so at all. Sentence after sentence he makes the same statement with small variation and continues page after page. The par sheets which he claims are so valuable are of no practical use at all and account for about 30 pages. Other useless fillers are obsolete pay tables along with pictures of the machines.

This book is also full of errors such as contrasting 2 pay tables for a particular game when they are actually identical, probably due to a typo.

And here is a really good one: he states on page 266 that if you are dealt AA22 and draw one card that there are 6 cards in the deck available to give you a full house, namely 3 aces and 3 deuces!

He offers a "simple strategy" which is just plain idiotic. In order to play these games properly you need detailed strategies specific to each game and pay table.

The benefit of video poker is that you can play at or near a 100% payback rate and still enjoy the benefits that casinos bestow on their valued gambling customers. And you only need to play on quarter machines to get casino rate hotel rooms, free meals, assorted gifts, cash back, free coin coupons, and more. Play dollar machines and they will give you free rooms, gourmet meals, more cash back, and more and better gifts.

But to accomplish this you need to know not only which machines to play but also the correct detailed strategy specific to each machine that you play. Books such as this one that do not provide that information are of no value whatsoever to either new or experienced video poker players.

I will still keep looking for new material on this subject, but like the Gurnee reviewer I have not been able to find it so far.

Who do you think wrote the reviews that give this book 5 stars?

Great Book with Terrific Information that's New
I just logged on to see the reviews here, and I saw some idiot from Gurnee, IL USA post a review that obviously misses the mark completely. This person has NO clue about the video poker truths. This book is the ONLY book that will tell you the real truth, and not just the ridiculous myths that you find elsewhere. Persons like the reviewer from Gurnee, IL USA should be ashamed to even post their misguided views.

If you want to be a winner at Video Poker, then you must have THIS book. In here is ALL you ever need, told in the real truth as it really is. Royer's information about the game is directly from the manufacturer of the video poker machines and games. His details are unsurpassed. The analysis of the games are directly from the actual details that go into the approval process for these very games. His strategy and hand analysis is directly relevant to how you can make profits from the game when you play -- as opposed to some theories that won't ever work for your play in the actual casino.

I have this book, and I love it! You should too, and remember that what you read here is the truth of the actual and real game itself, as told in Royer's great easy-to-read and easy-to-understand style. His information comes directly from the very people who make the games. No one else can say that.

Be wise, and listen to what I am saying. It's you're money, and you should know better than to listen to those who are themselves afraid of the truth, or incapable of understanding it.

This book pays for itself many times over. Get it.
