Casino Bookstore about video poker

What is video poker?

Video poker first became commercially viable once it was economical to combine a television-like monitor with a solid state central processing unit. The earliest models appeared at the same time as the first personal computers were produced, in the mid-1970s, although they were rather primitive by today's standards.

Video poker became more firmly established when IGT (now a market-leading provider of gaming devices) brought out Draw Poker in 1979. Throughout the 1980s, video poker became increasingly popular, as people found the devices less intimidating than playing at the tables. Today, video poker enjoys a prominent place on the gaming floors of many casinos, and the game is especially popular with Las Vegas locals, who tend to patronize properties off the Las Vegas Strip for the better odds offered by those establishments.

Reviews:

A good basic introduction
"The Guide to Beating the Poker Machines" by Roger Fleming is a good basic introduction to video poker, but it beats around the bush. It doesn't do a great job of explaining the specifics of the different varieties of video poker games.

To be successful at video poker, you must know how to identify the best machines and then you must know the best play tactics - which are different for each specific paytable. Several other books will give you the detailed information you need:

"How to Gamble at the Casinos without Getting Plucked Like a Chicken"
"Professional Video Poker"
"Video Poker - Optimum Play"

However, if you are really inexperienced at card games and need to start a the very beginning, this book is a good choice. It is not enough, though; you need more details than it provides to become a consistent winner.
I love Video Poker
It was a good tutor type book, I read it some time ago, decided to review it to see what I forgot. I was hoping to get another book by him or a similar book. I am not a big winner, but the book helped me to at least hold my own while playing.
If you are going to play, get this book!
